AEQ CAPITOL IP is an ultra-compact digital audio mixer for Radio and Television consisting in a control surface and an associated audio engine, specially designed for ON AIR broadcast control, highly adaptable to different operational situations. The following chapters will describe AEQ CAPITOL IP audio engine.
The AEQ CAPITOL IP audio engine or core unit consists in a 2RU chassis (89mm or 3 1/2″ height), designed to be installed in standardized 19″ (482mm) racks. As with the rest of AEQ CAPITOL IP, the audio engine size has been minimized without leaving any feature out, its depth being only 330mm.
AEQ CAPITOL IP audio engine does not have any fans or moving mechanical parts for cooling.
Therefore its operation is totally silent and can thus be installed inside radio studios. The unit cooling relies on convection air flow. For this reason it is strongly recommended to leave some space above and below the equipment. It also takes advantage of the good thermal conductivity properties of the metal elements of the chassis to channel the residual heat to the front panel, where it is dissipated.
Ease of installation and set up been a priority during the design of CAPITOL IP, so audio input and output, control monitoring and auxiliary signals configurations of the mixing console are fixed and defined from Factory:
• 4 balanced microphone / line level inputs.
• 12 line level balanced mono analog inputs.
• 4 AES/S/PDIF digital stereo inputs.
• 8 line level balanced mono analog outputs.
• 4 AES/S/PDIF digital stereo outputs.
• 2 stereo input/output USB computer connections.
• Bi-directional AoIP (audio over IP) interface handling up to 16 mono inputs and outputs.
• Control and Studio headphone outputs.
• Stereo unbalanced CUE output with line level.
• Stereo balanced analog outputs with line level for control and Studio monitors.
In order to connect external cough-cuts, remote control external devices, ON AIR lights, etc, AEQ CAPITOL IP features 8 general purpose digital inputs (GPI), 8 outputs (GPO) and another 4 relay-switched outputs. The system configuration and remote control is carried out through an IP based Ethernet connection.

AEQ CAPITOL IP also features 246 virtual GPIs and 242 virtual GPOs; these virtual GPIs and GPOs are general purpose inputs and outputs that are respectively related to virtual GPOs and GPIs of other unitsthrough an IP network, so the control is carried through the IP network between different units.

AEQ CAPITOL IP has an optional bi-directional MADI interface that can carry up to 64 digital inputs and outputs (MADI functionality is not compatible with AoIP functionality, both options can’t be active at the same time); there is also an optional Dual line Digital Telephone Hybrid.

For ease of wiring and avoid errors in the installation process, audio and data cables with DB15 male connectors required to connect the console can be optionally supplied. In any event, it is necessary to use shielded and balanced audio cables and that the connection to the DB connectors are made by technically qualified personnel and properly verified before connecting the equipment. Further, optional power supply and wiring for control and studio signalling and GPIO can be supplied.
